Filtering systems and chemical agents can lead to problems, however, the most serious issues come from a lack of crowd control. The more bodies you have in the pool, the more upkeep that’s required. A bigger crowd means trickier chemistry. We also do not advise you to risk improper care because you want to save a few bucks here and there. It may just end up costing you much more in the long run. Here’s our list of the most common mistakes when it comes to pool care from Advanced Pool & Spa.
Trying to cut down can cost you – Some homeowners try not to run the pump as much as they should in order to cut back on the electric bill. But what they don’t count on is the extra amount of money they will fork out for acid and chlorine imbalances due to a misguided attempt at miserliness. We recommend running your pump for at least seven hours daily in order for proper maintenance.
Pooch Problems – Man’s best friend loves the water. For homeowners, watching their canines leap into the pool and paddle is an adorable sight they thoroughly enjoy. What they don’t count on, however, is a dog’s fur contaminating the water and clogging up their filters. Once your dog is finished paddling around, whip out a skimmer and examine those filters.
Party Planning – Who doesn’t enjoy a pool party during a hot summer day? However, more bodies in the pool equals more chlorine necessary to maintain chemical balance. Before the first guests arrive, inspect the water’s pH levels if you wish to avoid problems. Calling in a pool service company like ours may be a good investment for quality assurance. Improper inspection may lead to algae growth from the chemical imbalance which will cost you.
Splash the Water, Lose the Water – The water levels must be monitored in order for the skimmers and the pump to operate smoothly. The more people you have in the pool, the more water gets splashed and thrown out. When the water level gets too low, the pump and skimmers do not operate at maximum efficiency which leads to accelerated wear and tear.
Skimp on Calcium Hardness – This product hardens your water and helps maintain the surfaces of your pool, such as the vinyl liner, concrete, plaster, and fiberglass as long as possible. You only need to add it once every season, so do not try to skimp on this. We recommend a calcium level of around 200 – 250 ppm, but please keep an eye on this consistently. Calcium loss can occur due to natural evaporation and splashing.
Run through a proper checklist and ensure that you do not hold back on the proper precautions. Budgetary concerns can tempt you to skimp but it will cost you later on. Be mindful that parties and frequent use of the pool requires you to constantly monitor the various levels of chlorine, calcium, and water loss. We recommend contacting us for inspection, cleaning, and general expertise. It’s a worthwhile investment.
