Spring is rapidly approaching, with summer hot on its heels. While you’re prepping your house and wardrobe for the warmer temperatures, don’t forget to ready the pool as well. The following steps will guide you through the process of resetting your pool for the swimming season to come, and addressing any pool repair or service issues.
The Cover
- Before removing the cover or emptying the water bags, make sure to remove any collected water from the surface with the help of a cover pump. Next, using your mesh net, remove any leaves and other solid debris.
- Once your cover is free of debris, empty the weights and fold the cover accordion style. Let it dry completely before packing it away, to avoid mildew growth.
The Filtration System
- Inspect all your equipment for damages that accrued throughout the winter. Check for cracks, wear and tear, holes, corrosion, or anything else that may hinder your filtration system’s operation. Be sure to repair or replace as needed.
- Remove the freezing prevention tools and plugs, then reassemble the pump, hoses, and plugs. While attaching the equipment, be careful to avoid trapping air, as this can damage it.
- Once everything is put together properly, test for the correct pressure levels and allow the pump to work for at least eight hours.
The Water
- Add or remove water until it’s at the correct level, and remove anything that may have found its way into the water over winter.
- Check for leaks, especially if you lost a lot of water over the winter.
- Once it’s circulated for the minimum eight hours, test the chemistry and add chemicals as needed. It’s recommended to have the water professionally tested in the spring.
By following the above steps, your pool will be ready for those steamy summer afternoons.
