Summer storms are a lot of things, but unpredictable is always one of them. One second you might be sweltering in the heat, but the next you might be running inside to dodge the rain. Storms are one of the major causes of pool damage across the country. From flooding to electrical problems and back again, you can avoid all sorts of pool repair by properly preparing your pool for a storm.
The following are some measures you can take to protect your pool and prevent unnecessary pool repair:
Lower the Water Level
A big concern with storms and pools is water overflow. However, most pools have a pre-installed overflow system that will drain out all extra water from your pool. But, if a very big storm is on its way, you can lower the water level in your pool about two or three feet to give your overflow system an edge.
Turn off the Power
You most likely have a lot of expensive pool equipment that requires electricity to run, and storms often cause damaging surges of energy that can destroy your equipment. So, turn off all pumps, motors, or electrical equipment in or around your pool to keep them safe from surges.
Bring it Inside
Severe storms cannot only damage your pool equipment and accoutrements, but they can also damage the rest of your property. A flying deck chair or water pump can cause a lot of destruction to your home and endanger your neighbors. So, bring inside everything that isn’t securely tied down before a storm.
Summer storms can be dangerous, but if you are properly prepared you and your pool should be fine. Take the above precautions before every storm so you can avoid pool repairs and enjoy your pool throughout the warm months.
